The DOS command line built into every windows machine can be used to perform a lot of useful tasks including shutting down or restarting another device remotely. To remotely restart a Windows machine through command line, follow these instructions.

- 4Scroll down to Remote Registry, right-click, and select Properties from the drop-down list.
- 5To the right of Startup Type, select Automatic from the drop-down list, then hit OK.

- 1Log into a remote Windows computer as an Administrator.
- 2Go to Start > Run.

- 4Type shutdown /i and hit Enter.
- 5Click Add, type in the name of the remote device, and hit OK.
- 6Apply the desired settings and hit OK. For example, you can choose to shut down or restart, warn the user on the remote machine, display the warning for a set length of time, etc.
Remotely Restart on Windows XP Professional
- 1Log into a remote Windows computer as an Administrator.
- 2Go to Start > Control Panel.
- 3Navigate to Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
- 4Right-click Computer Management (Local) and select Connect to another computer.
- 5Click Another computer, type the name of the machine you want to restart, and click OK. You can also click Browse to find this name.
- 6Right-click Computer Management (Name You Supplied) and select Properties.
- 7Under the Advanced tab, click Startup and Recovery.
- 8Click Shutdown, find Actions, and select Restart.
- 9Under Force Apps Closed, adjust to the desired settings and hit OK.
